The Colorado Rockies could be without star shortstop Trevor Story for a final playoff push.

Story left Monday's game mid-at-bat with elbow soreness and may have suffered damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm, sources tell Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. No official diagnosis has been provided.

The 25-year-old said after the game that he hurt his elbow on defense before the team removed him when discomfort returned while taking a swing.

"I felt something on the throw when I dove for the ball," Story said, according to Katie Woo of MLB.com. "My elbow was a little tight, but I just tried to play through it. When I swung through that pitch, it kind of extended my arm and I felt it a little more."

He was scheduled to undergo tests Tuesday.

It's terrible timing for a Rockies team challenging for the NL West title or, barring that, a wild-card berth. Story has been a big factor in their success as he's hit .288/.343/.550 with 33 home runs, 102 RBI, and 26 stolen bases in 149 games.
