The San Francisco Giants have reportedly placed outfielder Andrew McCutchen on revocable trade waivers, according to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic.

This could mean another trade for McCutchen, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates during the offseason, especially with the Giants falling out of the playoff race after four straight losses entering Monday.

If the Giants don't like the pieces being offered, whether he gets claimed or passes through waivers, they aren't obligated to move him as they can pull him back. If this happens, the Giants will not be able to place him revocable waivers again this season.

Priority goes to the claiming team with the worst record in the same league as the team waiving the player. There technically isn't a deadline to make a trade, but any player acquired after Aug. 31 will be ineligible to play in the postseason. It seems likely that McCutchen will be dealt before the end of the month if at all.

A free agent at the end of the season, McCutchen is expected to draw interest on the trade market before the end of August despite an uneven campaign. He's hitting .255/.352/.413 with 14 home runs in 122 games.
