David Wright's career isn't over just yet.

The New York Mets third baseman will begin a minor-league rehab assignment Sunday, playing five innings at third base for Class-A St. Lucie, the team announced Saturday.

It will be Wright's first game since Aug. 26, 2017, and is a huge step in his recovery from back and shoulder injuries that have slowed down the 35-year-old's career.

The seven-time All-Star hasn't appeared in a big-league game since May of 2016 and has only played 75 regular-season games since 2015.

Wright, a former MVP candidate and two-time Gold Glove winner, owns a career .296/.376/.491 slash line with 242 home runs and 970 RBIs.

He's on the books for $20 million this season, $15 million next season, and $12 million in 2020.
