The Los Angeles Angels have placed outfielder Mike Trout on the 10-day disabled list with right wrist inflammation, the team announced Friday. The move is retroactive to Aug. 6.

Trout injured his wrist on a feet-first slide into third base against the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 1.

The superstar outfielder is once again enjoying an MVP-caliber campaign for the Angels but is set to miss time with an injury for the second straight season. He spent almost seven weeks on the disabled list in 2017 with a torn ligament in his thumb.

Trout is slashing .309/.459/.624 with 30 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 109 games this season.

The Angels, who were expected by many to compete for a playoff position in 2018, hold a 58-58 record and sit 10 1/2 games back of a wild-card spot entering Friday.
