Prominent New York Yankees play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay apologized to outfielder Clint Frazier on Tuesday after he upset the player by making comments about his health during a radio appearance.

"Clint, I would never question someone's injury," Kay said in a tweet. "Never. In fact, I have gone out of my way to say how I felt for you this year and how badly I know how you to play. It is beyond my comprehension that you would think I would minimize what you are going through.

"The next time I make light of someone's injury will be the first time," Kay added. "I should have said how unfortunate you and Ellsbury's injuries are. It came out in a clumsy way. If you took it the wrong way, I apologize and look forward to speaking with you personally."

Kay's apology came one day after he pointed his finger at Frazier and Jacoby Ellsbury for not being healthy enough to help the Yankees following their four-game series sweep at the hands of the Boston Red Sox.

"Shame on Clint Frazier for not getting healthy. ... You can't make them get healthy, but if those guys are available it's a completely different animal," Kay said Monday.

Frazier, who's recovering from a concussion, took offense to Kay's comments and clapped back on Twitter shortly after.

Frazier has only appeared in 15 big-league games this season and another 52 in the minors while he rehabs from his concussion.

Ellsbury underwent season-ending hip surgery Monday and didn't compete in a single game this season.
