The New York Yankees have made it clear they'll try to acquire pitching before the July 31 trade deadline, but they might also try to move arms as well.

Yankees starter Sonny Gray is said to be generating interest on the trade front, according to Fancred's Jon Heyman, who hears the 28-year-old right-hander might do better in another market.

The Yankees acquired Gray at last season's trade deadline for three players, but he hasn't replicated his success from his time in Oakland where he finished third in Cy Young voting in 2015.

TEAM IP W-L ERA FIP BB/9 SO/9
Athletics 705 44-36 3.42 3.56 2.9 7.7
Yankees 161.1 11-14 4.69 4.60 3.8 8.4

Gray has struggled in 19 starts this season, allowing a 5.34 ERA (80 ERA+) in 96 innings, although he has pitched better of late.

Jul 21 vs. NYM 5.1 3 3 2 3 6 1

Most of his troubles have come while pitching at Yankee Stadium. Gray's allowed nine of his 12 homers in his ballpark and his ERA is four points higher at home (7.62) than on the road (3.62).

With his previous track record and affordability ($6.5-million salary, signed through 2019, eligible for arbitration next season) Gray could appeal to a number of teams looking for starting pitching, such as the Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, and Seattle Mariners.
