In an event that looked like it'd be lacking a lot of punch, the Home Run Derby managed to exceed expectations thanks largely to the theatrics staged by Bryce Harper.

The Washington Nationals superstar set Twitter, uh, atwitter, winning the derby with 45 total long balls in front of his home crowd at Nationals Park. Harper's total was the fourth-most in derby history.

Fellow athletes were among those tipping their cap to Harper, starting with the guy who faced him in the Home Run Derby finals, Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber:

Two-sport great Deion Sanders was psyched to see Harper share the spotlight with his dad, who got to pitch to the star:

Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Archie Bradley was more intrigued by Ron Harper's physique than his son's evening:

Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon McCarthy was a fan of the event:

Even Jeff Francoeur put his Braves fandom in the backseat for a moment, congratulating Harper while still rooting for Atlanta to shut him down when the season resumes over the weekend:

Harper's patriotic headwear, which matched his sleeve and bat, was also a hit:

Baseball Prospectus writer Ben Diamond wanted to see who would win in an arm wrestling match between Ron Harper and Earl Stroman, the father of Toronto Blue Jays starter Marcus:

Seriously though, did you see Harper's dad?
