The New York Yankees appear poised to pounce if the Los Angeles Angels choose to sell before the non-waiver trade deadline.

With Los Angeles sitting 14 games back in the American League West and 10 out of the second wild-card spot, the Yankees have scouted their pitching and reportedly have interest in left-handed starters Tyler Skaggs and Andrew Heaney if they become available, sources told Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com.

The Yankees head into the deadline with starting pitching at the top of their trade list and have been heavily linked to Toronto Blue Jays southpaw J.A. Happ. General manager Brian Cashman may want to acquire a pitcher with more control, and both Skaggs and Heaney have a few years left on their current deals.

Skaggs owns a 2.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 105 strikeouts over 98 innings. The 27-year-old is earning $1.875 million this season and has two additional years of arbitration before hitting free agency in 2021.

Heaney, 27, has posted a 3.84 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 96 strikeouts in 96 innings. He is arbitration eligible for three more seasons and won't become a free agent until 2022.
