Report: Indians, Orioles discussing trade for reliever Givens
More details are emerging in regards to Friday's reported trade talks between the Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles.
Cleveland has discussed multiple players with Baltimore - with outfielder Adam Jones named as a viable option - but the Indians have also discussed acquiring reliever Mychal Givens, a source told MLB Network's Jon Morosi on Saturday.
Given, 28, was one of the American League's best non-closing relievers in seasons past, but despite remaining an effective strikeout pitcher, his ERA and walks have surged in a down year for most of the Orioles roster.
YEAR | G | IP | W-L | ERA | BB/9 | SO/9 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2015 | 22 | 30 | 2-0 | 1.80 | 1.8 | 11.4 |
2016 | 66 | 74.2 | 8-2 | 3.13 | 4.3 | 11.6 |
2017 | 69 | 78.2 | 8-1 | 2.75 | 2.9 | 10.1 |
2018 | 41 | 47 | 0-6 | 4.40 | 4.4 | 10.5 |
The Indians have been on the hunt for relief pitching with their once-dominant bullpen struggling this year.
Cleveland's 'pen ranks last in the AL with a 5.39 ERA. It's allowed 49 home runs in 252 1/3 innings of relief and its 243 strikeouts rank better than only the Kansas City Royals in the majors.
