Report: Brewers, Twins in talks around Dozier, Escobar

Bruce Kluckhohn / USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers appear poised to make a splash on the trade market, and they're not putting all their hopes into a Manny Machado-shaped basket.

The Brewers have engaged in trade talks with the Minnesota Twins and are primarily focused on infielders Brian Dozier and Eduardo Escobar, a source tells Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

While Milwaukee had talks with Twins right-hander Lance Lynn last offseason on the open market, they're reportedly looking more closely at infield help.

Even though Dozier has had a rough year, batting .223/.308/.409, he's been a consistent source of power and speed over each of the past five seasons. Between 2013 and 2017, he's averaged 29 home runs and 16 stolen bases.

Escobar may be more appealing based on his recent success. After a breakout 2017, Escobar has been even better this season, batting .275/.330/.523 with 14 home runs and a major-league leading 35 doubles.

Barring extensions, both players will be free agents after the season.

The Brewers' middle infield has generated some of the weakest offensive output at their positions in the majors, as inconsistent play has plagued the likes of Eric Sogard, Hernan Perez, and Orlando Arcia.
