Big bats teaming up in the Bronx: Good luck against Judge, Stanton

Following their trade for Giancarlo Stanton this offseason, the New York Yankees seemed poised to boast one of the most feared hitting lineups in baseball's history.

After Stanton's ice-cold April, during which he hit just three home runs and posted a .661 OPS, the outfielder and teammate Aaron Judge are on fire, frustrating pitchers with five combined homers through the first four games of July. Here's a look at the sluggers' production in the admittedly small, yet dominant, sample size:

Player PA H HR BB K
Stanton 18 6 2 0 7
Judge 20 7 3 4 5

Let's take a chronological look at how the pair of Yankees sluggers are terrorizing pitchers with the long ball:

July 1

Batter: Judge
Pitcher: David Price

Baseball fans will remember this as the night that didn't go well for Price. The southpaw failed to make it out of the fourth inning on Sunday Night Baseball, coughing up five home runs. The first was to Judge on a 2-2 count, as the Red Sox lefty tried to slip a two-seamer by the 2017 American League Rookie of the Year.

Judge had just swung through a 85-mph changeup that missed down and away. One strike away from setting down the slugger, Price left a two-seamer up in the zone, and Judge isn't going to miss that pitch.

July 2

Batter: Judge
Pitcher: Anibal Sanchez

The next day, Atlanta Braves starter Anibal Sanchez made a similar mistake. Ahead 0-2, the right-hander left a fastball - this time a cutter - up in the zone.

July 3

Batter: Stanton
Pitcher: Evan Phillips

On Tuesday, it was Stanton's turn, as he absolutely punished a 95-mph fastball right down the pipe from Braves reliever Evan Phillips. It was a clear mistake against the reigning National League MVP.

July 4

Perhaps feeling the rush of patriotism for their country, both Stanton and Judge teed off on Independence Day.

Batter: Stanton
Pitcher: Julio Teheran

Having struck out Judge earlier earlier in the third frame, Teheran was probably feeling pretty confident. That confidence got the better of him, as he threw three straight four-seam fastballs to Stanton, with the first and third in the exact same location: belt-high and away. The slugger swung through the pitch the first time, then pummeled it to the tune of a 111-mph exit velocity on his next opportunity.

Batter: Judge
Pitcher: Luiz Gohara

Opening the at-bat with back-to-back sliders, the rookie Gohara had an even 1-1 count before falling behind 2-1 on a fastball that missed inside. The 21-year-old lefty followed that up with another four-seamer down and in, which Judge promptly deposited in the seats.

Good luck against the pair of Bronx bombers

Despite sitting one game back of the AL East-leading Red Sox, the Yankees remain on a 108-win pace. They've done that without Judge and Stanton being on concurrent hot streaks - until now.

One pattern has emerged from the sluggers' dominance during their past four games: No matter the count, Judge and Stanton remain abundantly capable of murdering fastballs. Major-league hurlers: you've been warned.
