Giants-Marlins see several ejections after teams throw at each other

The San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins don't play one another all that much over the course of a season, but that hasn't stopped the bad blood from forming.

During the series opener Monday, Giants reliever Hunter Strickland came up and in on Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson during an at-bat in the ninth inning. Brinson would line a game-tying RBI single into right field several pitches later and followed by throwing his bat and exchanging some words with the right-hander.

The Giants wasted no time getting their revenge Tuesday. Giants starter Dereck Rodriguez hit Brinson in the second inning during his first at-bat. Both benches were warned by the umpires.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Marlins immediately retaliated by plunking Giants catcher Buster Posey, resulting in Miami manager Don Mattingly and starter Dan Straily being ejected.

"I just lost a fastball in," Straily said, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com. "(I'm) trying to throw a fastball in and get him off the plate. Obviously, Andy thought it was on purpose, and so he got me out of there."

Straily added that he didn't even notice Brinson and Strickland's exchange the previous night until after it happened and it "wasn't even a thought" to try and retaliate.

Following the game, however, Posey said he believed that he was hit intentionally.

"I don't know, it sure seemed that way," Posey said.
