Clayton Kershaw isn't quite ready to return to the majors.

The Los Angeles Dodgers ace will make a rehab start in Triple-A on Saturday, and will rejoin the big club next week if all goes well. It's expected that he'll throw four innings or roughly 60 pitches.

Kershaw had hoped to skip the rehab start, but the Dodgers opted to have him face hitters in game action before sliding him back into the rotation.

"He stated his case as he always done. Which is great. It's what you would expect," manager Dave Roberts said, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

Kershaw has been on the disabled list since May 31 due to lower back tightness. It's the second time he's been on the DL after an early bout of left biceps tendinitis sidelined him for nearly a month.

The three-time Cy Young winner owns a 2.76 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts across 49 innings.
