Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia was able to relay some good news Monday regarding sidelined two-way star Shohei Ohtani, who is dealing with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament.

The Angels' medical staff is "very optimistic," about Ohtani's prognosis, Scioscia told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

The 23-year-old Ohtani recently received platelet-rich plasma injections in his right elbow to help promote healing. While the team won't know whether the PRP injections helped for another two or three weeks, Ohtani has been cleared to take one-armed swings in the batting cage.

Since coming over from Nippon Professional Baseball, Ohtani has been as electrifying as expected. As a hitter on the left side of the dish, the phenom owns a .907 OPS with six home runs over 129 plate appearances. As a pitcher, the right-hander's posted a 3.10 ERA and 3.21 FIP, and has occasionally flashed a 100-mph fastball.
