San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria is scheduled to undergo left hand surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, though he hopes to beat that timetable.

"Being cautious, (doctor) said it's probably best to say six-to-eight weeks," Longoria said Saturday, according to Chris Haft of MLB.com. "But I have a hard time telling myself that. So I'm definitely going to push for sometime right after the (All-Star) break."

Longoria was diagnosed with a fractured fifth metacarpal on his left hand after being hit by a pitch during Thursday's game.

"The reason why we're opting for the surgery is kind of just to pin that bone together and hopefully we'll start working toward getting the strength back and recovering as soon as possible," Longoria said, according to Kerry Crowley of the Mercury News.

His first season in San Francisco has been a struggle. In 67 games, Longoria's hitting .246/.278/.434 with 10 home runs and 57 strikeouts. Pablo Sandoval and Alen Hanson are expected to see time at third base in his absence.

Longoria joins Hunter Pence, Johnny Cueto, and Jeff Samardzija on the disabled list for the Giants.
