San Diego Padres reliever Jose Torres accepted a 100-game suspension Friday from Major League Baseball for violating the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.

"We fully support the decision by the Commissioner's Office to suspend Jose Torres for violating the joint MLB-MLBPA domestic violence policy," the Padres said in a statement. "We will continue to support the league's efforts to educate players and prevent instances like this from occurring in the future."

Torres has not pitched this season following his arrest in December for an incident that occurred at his home in Arizona. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, criminal damage, and making threats or intimidation after knocking a door off its hinges and pointing a gun at the victim, according to a court report obtained by the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The 24-year-old was place on the restricted list by the league and is scheduled to appear in court July 2.

Torres made his major-league debut in 2016 and appeared in 62 games in 2017, posting a 4.21 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 63 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings.
