There hasn't been a lot going well for the Baltimore Orioles this season, and the misery around the club reached a new low on Thursday.

Struggling Orioles first baseman Chris Davis said he's bothered by recent comments made about him by franchise legend and longtime television analyst Jim Palmer.

On Wednesday, Palmer questioned how much work Davis puts in with Orioles hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh, adding that the 32-year-old is one of the many reasons the last-place Orioles are playing so poorly.

"I can just look at what's going on. He's slumping. He's really - I mean, he's killing this club," Palmer said during Wednesday's postgame show, according to MLB.com's Jeff Arnold. "He's not the only guy doing that. It's not all on Chris Davis."

Davis was disappointed to hear Palmer being so critical of him, and not pleased to learn the former pitcher also questioned his work ethic.

"Obviously, it bothers me," Davis said. "It's disappointing that when things are obviously not going the way I want, for that to be called into question by two guys (Palmer and Coolbaugh) that I have a lot of trust, have a lot of faith in, that I've had a good relationship with for a number of years, I hate that's where we're at."

Davis has been one of the worst hitters in baseball this season, posting an OPS of .490 through 44 games. Only Kole Calhoun (.376) and Lewis Brinson (.486) have a lower OPS among qualified hitters.
