Cubs' Schwarber didn't think his ejection Sunday was warranted
The Chicago Cubs won for the third time in a four-game set against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, but it wasn't all cause for rejoicing. Outfielder Kyle Schwarber was called out looking on a borderline third strike in the top of the seventh. He reacted poorly, and was ejected by home-plate umpire John Tumpane.
That's when Schwarber really lost his cool.
After the game, Schwarber explained that while he was upset with the call he thought the ejection was a step too far.
"I said it was high, may have said a choice word in there," Schwarber said according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "I didn't want to show him up ... Then he just threw me out and that's where I kind of lost it. I didn't think the ejection was necessary."
Schwarber was having a pretty solid game before getting the unceremonious hook. He went 2-for-4 and hit his eighth homer of the season.
It was the first time in his career that Schwarber has been ejected from a game.
