Report: Jones purchasing Ripken's home doesn't mean he'll stay with Orioles

A piece of Adam Jones will apparently stay in Baltimore even if he moves on from the Orioles as a free agent at season's end.

A real-estate enthusiast, Jones recently purchased Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr.'s 25-acre home in Reisterstown, Md., for a fraction of its opening asking price of $12.5 million, sources tell The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The actual purchase price has not been officially revealed, though it dropped to $9.75 million last September.

That is not an indication, however, that Jones is eyeing an extension with the Orioles, sources said. He apparently bought the property as an investment, and he and buys and sells homes in other cities as well.

Jones is in the midst of his 11th season with the Orioles as he closes out a six-year, $85.5-million deal that served as the club's largest contract when he signed it ahead of 2013. He originally arrived in Baltimore as part of a deal with the Seattle Mariners that sent left-handed starter Erik Bedard to the Pacific Northwest.
