Report: Melky agrees to minor-league deal with Indians
The Cleveland Indians reportedly beefed up their outfield depth Monday, agreeing to a minor-league deal with veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.
Cabrera, a one-time All-Star, split the 2017 campaign between the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals, hitting .285/.324/.423 (99 OPS+) with 17 home runs and 30 doubles in 156 games. Since 2014, the 33-year-old has averaged 151 games played per season, managing a .764 OPS (110 OPS+) and 5.0 WAR over that span.
Last week, before Jose Bautista signed a minor-league contract with the Atlanta Braves, the Indians were keen to sign the 37-year-old, reportedly offering him a better deal than the one he agreed to, major-league sources told Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.
