Roenis Elias is headed back to the Pacific Northwest.

The Boston Red Sox traded the left-hander to the Seattle Mariners on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Elias was originally acquired by the Red Sox from the Mariners in 2015 along with Carson Smith in exchange for Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro.

Despite making 49 starts over two seasons for Seattle, Elias never made much of an impact at the major-league level in Boston due to injuries and little opportunity to crack the rotation. Over the past three seasons, he appeared in just eight innings for the Red Sox.

The 29-year-old owns a 1.23 ERA, 0.54 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings of relief with Triple-A Pawtucket this season.
