Blue Jays-Royals game postponed after falling ice damages stadium roof

Not even the Toronto Blue Jays and their domed stadium are immune to a severe mid-April storm that led to a rash of postponed games across Major League Baseball over the last couple days.

The Blue Jays were forced to postpone Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals after a chunk of ice fell from the CN Tower and damaged the Rogers Centre's retractable roof, causing water to leak onto the field.

The two teams will play a traditional doubleheader Tuesday with the first game starting at 3:07 pm ET.

Crews attempted to repair the roof in time for the first pitch, but the Blue Jays ultimately scrapped the game due to safety reasons.

It's only the second time in the stadium's history that the team has had to postpone a game. The Blue Jays' series opener against the Royals on April 12, 2001, had to be rescheduled after metal fragments fell onto the field during a routine test of the stadium's roof.
