The Seattle Mariners have signed executive vice president and general manager Jerry Dipoto to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.

While terms of the deal are not known, Dipoto's current contract was set to expire this offseason, according to Bob Nightengale of The USA TODAY.

In his third full season with the club, Dipoto has helped the Mariners become a postseason contender. At 56-32, Seattle is second in the American League West behind the reigning World Series champion Houston Astros, and currently in position for the AL's second wild-card spot.

Known for his deal-making abilities, Dipoto most famously traded for Dee Gordon, converting him to center field this season before Robinson Cano's suspension forced Gordon to resume infield duties. The Mariners also notably acquired both Jean Segura and Mitch Haniger in a deal that sent Taijuan Walker to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Mariners have scheduled a news conference with Dipoto for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. PT.
