A year after finishing with the worst record in the National League, the San Francisco Giants entered spring training as one of baseball's top bounce-back candidates. With injuries felling ace starter Madison Bumgarner and his dutiful second-in-command, Jeff Samardzija, over the last 24 hours or so, things don't look nearly as sunny.

With Bumgarner out for the next six-to-eight weeks and Samardzija looking at around a month-long absence, does this spell an early demise for the team by the Bay? Or will the offense anchored by Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen be enough to weather the storm so they come out the other end as a playoff contender?
