Ex-MLBer wins lawsuit after breaking hand punching naked man on LSD
Greg Reynolds will no longer be known as a pitcher drafted before Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer, as the 2006 No. 2 overall pick won a $2.3-million lawsuit Monday for suffering multiple fractures in his pitching hand after punching a naked man on LSD who'd broken into his home and attacked him.
In a release from Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy LLP: "Reynolds claimed that his career was cut short on January 16, 2015, when he was attacked in front of his Half Moon Bay home by a man on LSD, Domenic Pintarelli. Pintarelli was held liable along with Reynolds’ neighbor, Connor Pope, who hosted the party which Pintarelli attended."
The $2.3 million includes $300,000 for Reynolds' wife, Megan.
The 32-year-old Reynolds last played in the majors in 2013 for the Cincinnati Reds, posting a 5.52 ERA over 29 1/3 innings. Reynolds attempted a comeback in 2016 on a minor-league deal with the San Diego Padres, but stepped away due to the injury.
Reynolds was drafted one pick after the Kansas City Royals selected Luke Hochevar first overall. Notable names drafted after Reynolds include Evan Longoria (No. 3), Andrew Miller (No. 6), Kershaw (No. 7), Tim Lincecum (No. 10), and Scherzer (No. 11).
