Angels' Trout has yet to strike out this spring

Rick Scuteri / USA TODAY Sports

While Mike Trout's spring performance has been rather pedestrian by his standards, there is one area of his game that has been remarkable.

Through 15 games and 44 plate appearances, the Los Angeles Angels star outfielder has yet to strike out.

Trout is the only player in either the Grapefruit League or Cactus League to currently have at least 30 plate appearances without a strikeout. Kansas City Royals infielder Humberto Arteaga sits second with 29 plate appearances without being punched out.

Even some of the league's best at making contact - Joe Panik, Justin Turner, Jose Ramirez, and Mookie Betts - have whiffed a combined 31 times.

The two-time American League MVP has worked to cut down his strikeouts in each of the last three seasons after being punched out a career-high 184 times (26.1 percent) in 2014. He struck out just 90 times in 114 games (17.8 percent) last season, while working 94 walks. It was the first time in his career that he walked more than he struck out.

Trout heads into the season as one of the favorites to win the AL MVP. He either won or finished second in MVP voting every year from 2012-2016 and finished fourth last year after missing 48 games due to injury. The 26-year-old is hitting .278/.409/.500 with two home runs, two steals, and seven walks this spring.
