White Sox bench Garcia for not running hard in spring game

Chicago White Sox skipper Rick Renteria is making sure to send a message to his veteran players this spring.

With the rebuild fully engaged on the South Side and a number of young players in camp, Renteria singled out Avisail Garcia and benched him for the remainder of Wednesday's game after the six-year veteran didn't run out a ground ball.

"I didn't run," Garcia told reporters. "That's why. It's my fault, 100 percent.

"I didn't see the ball. Then, I saw it and was surprised. I'm like, 'Damn.' Then I started running. Everybody makes mistakes. You've got to be honest. I didn't run. They took me out. That's it."

Garcia acknowledged that he wants to be a leader this season and will take what happened and build off of it.

"You have to take it as a positive," he said. "You don't say 'Why did they take me out?' No, no. Learn from it and that's it."
