Yankees assign top prospect Torres to minor-league camp

Gleyber Torres won't crack the New York Yankees' Opening Day roster.
The club's top prospect was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday where he'll start the season.
"It's the decision of the team. I don't control that," Torres said, according to Marc Carig of The Athletic.
Torres opened camp with a potential shot at cracking the roster but those odds were made worse once the Yankees traded for third baseman Brandon Drury and signed second baseman Neil Walker.
The 21-year-old Torres, who's coming off Tommy John surgery, struggled at the plate this spring, hitting .130/.200/.217 with two doubles and six strikeouts in 10 games.
