The Boston Red Sox are expected to sign utility infielder Eduardo Nunez to a one-year contract plus an option for 2019, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.

Terms of the deal, which is pending a physical, are not yet known.

The 30-year-old Nunez played an integral role in the Red Sox clinching the division down the stretch last year. After 76 games with the San Francisco Giants, Nunez was traded to the Red Sox for two minor-league pitchers.

Following the trade, Nunez played 36 games with Boston, posting a .321/.353/.539 slash line while spending time between second base, shortstop, third base, left field, and right field.

Nunez ended up missing most of September after suffering a knee injury. While he returned to the lineup as a designated hitter during the postseason, Nunez aggravated the injury in his first at-bat and missed the remainder of the playoffs.
