The sweepstake to recruit J.D. Martinez is heating up between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Boston Red Sox, and the National League club is reportedly willing to offer their erstwhile slugger a five-year deal worth more than $100 million, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

While the club's nine-figure ceiling is unknown, an industry source said the Red Sox offer was $110 million over five seasons despite previously being reported as $125 million, according to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score.

Scott Boras, Martinez's agent, quickly rejected the claim that Arizona had offered the star slugger a one-year deal, calling the report "not accurate," according to Heyman.

After spending three-and-a-half seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Martinez was shipped to the Diamondbacks, where he ended up setting a franchise record for home runs in September while helping propel the club into the postseason. Between the two clubs, Martinez posted a .303/.376/.690 slash line over 119 games with 45 home runs.
