Report: Mets not actively pursuing Colon
Despite his wishes, it doesn't appear a Bartolo Colon reunion with the New York Mets is in the cards - at least not at this point in the offseason.
The Mets have other needs they're focusing on outside of the rotation and aren't actively pursuing the veteran right-hander, a source told Matt Ehalt of NorthJersey.com.
The 44-year-old wants to pitch one more season in the majors, as he's six wins shy of passing Dennis Martinez for the most all-time among Latin American pitchers.
"He just wants to win six more games and then he will retire," Minnesota Twins starter Ervin Santana said earlier this week.
Colon, who's reportedly open to signing a minor-league deal in order to return to Queens, last pitched for the Mets in 2016 and was an All-Star. His performance drastically fell off last season, however, as he posted a career-worst 6.48 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 28 starts with the Atlanta Braves and Twins.
