Pump the brakes on those Matt Harvey trade rumors.

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson is unlikely to trade the beleaguered right-hander this offseason at the behest of new manager Mickey Callaway and pitching coach Dave Eiland, according to the Bergen Record's Pete Caldera.

"The most important thing I'm weighing is the opinions of Mickey Callaway and Dave Eiland. And they don't want to lose him," Alderson said.

It's a shift away from conversations the team was having in recent days. They had reportedly engaged with the Texas Rangers to explore a potential swap for infielder Jurickson Profar.

While Harvey has labored through debilitating injuries over the last several years, he has been one of the game's best pitchers when healthy. Over his first three seasons from 2012-15 (he missed 2014) he went 25-18 with a 2.53 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP while striking out 449 batters in 427 innings.

That kind of potential makes it easy to understand why the new coaching regime would like to keep him around. Harvey is entering his final year of arbitration before he enters free agency for the first time.
