Report: Mets to check in with Marlins about Starlin Castro
Starlin Castro may never get a chance to put on a Miami Marlins uniform. Acquired by the Marlins in the deal sending reigning NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton to the New York Yankees, he could be flipped again.
The New York Mets will call the Marlins about Castro once the deal is finalized, a team source told the New York Daily News' Kristie Ackert.
A deal may not be likely, however, as the Mets seem to prefer pursuing other second base options, according to Newsday's Marc Carig.
The Mets primarily used a combination of Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera at second base in 2017. Walker is a free agent and Cabrera is penciled in as the team's third baseman entering next season, so Castro would fill an immediate need.
As a member of the Chicago Cubs, Castro was mostly used as a shortstop before converting to the keystone with the Yankees in 2016.
In 112 games last season, Castro hit .300/.338/.454 with 16 home runs and 63 RBIs.
