The Colorado Rockies are looking to add to their bullpen and are reportedly interested in free-agent closer Wade Davis as well as Baltimore Orioles left-hander Zach Britton, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
In 2016, Britton put up arguably the most dominant season of relief in MLB history, posting a 0.54 ERA and 1.94 FIP over 67 innings.
The 29-year-old spent portions of 2017 sidelined due to injury, and put together a 2.89 ERA and 3.40 FIP over 37 1/3 innings. Britton factored into trade rumors near the non-waiver trade deadline, but the Orioles ultimately held on to their top relief asset.
Britton is entering his final year of arbitration and is projected to make $12.2 million next year.
Meanwhile, Davis is coming off of his only season with the Chicago Cubs after being acquired from the Kansas City Royals for Jorge Soler. The 32-year-old posted a 2.30 ERA and 3.38 FIP over 58 2/3 innings while earning 32 saves.
The top closer on the free-agent market, Davis is sure to lure a substantial contract.
As a team, the Rockies bullpen ranked sixth-best in the majors by FanGraphs' WAR last year, led by Greg Holland and Jake McGee, who both may depart via free agency.
