Chase Utley hasn't put on a Philadelphia Phillies uniform since 2015. That may be changing next season, but not in his familiar role.

The Phillies are reportedly considering bringing Utley back as one of new manager Gabe Kapler's bench coaches, according to Fox 29's Howard Eskin.

Utley, 38, has not yet retired from his playing career, so this job would be dependent on him hanging up his cleats. The second baseman played the first 12-plus years of his career in Philadelphia before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in August 2015.

While Utley narrowly missed a World Series championship last season, he won't retire without winning one. The Phillies took home the honors in 2008.

He won't be a lock to have his name called to the Hall of Fame, either, but few were as consistently excellent as Utley between 2005 and 2010. In that time, he hit .298/.388/.523 with 162 home runs, 216 doubles, 572 RBIs, and 90 stolen bases in 869 games.

At least one person would be amped to have Utley back in Philly, in whatever capacity possible.
