Jake Peavy, a former Cy Young award winner who didn't pitch last season due to personal and financial issues, is thinking comeback.

With the offseason now in full swing, teams are being told that Peavy, a 36-year-old right-hander, is interested in playing next year, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Last offseason, following a disappointing 2016 campaign with the San Francisco Giants, Peavy said he'd received multiple contract offers, but had turned them down to spend time with his four sons as he navigated the fallout from a divorce. As the 2017 season progressed, Peavy was increasingly adamant that he would return at some point.

"I can tell you with certainty, without a shadow of a doubt, I will play baseball again," Peavy told Alex Speier of the Boston Globe in June. "Whether that be this year or next year, I’m still up in the air. There are some opportunities to (sign) tomorrow. If that was to happen, I’m grateful for that. But the last year of my life has presented challenges I didn’t foresee coming. It’s something I’ve embraced."

Whether those opportunities still exist, however, remains to be seen. In 2016, Peavy endured the worst season of his career, stumbling to a 5.54 ERA (73 RA+) and 1.43 WHIP over 21 starts and 10 relief appearances with the Giants.

Across his 15 big-league seasons, Peavy, a three-time All-Star, owns a 3.63 ERA (110 ERA+) and 1.20 WHIP over 377 starts and 11 relief appearances split between the Giants, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and San Diego Padres.
