Judge, Stanton highlight 2017 Silver Sluggers

Major League Baseball handed out the Silver Slugger Awards on Thursday, recognizing the top offensive player at each position in both the American and National League.

Silver Sluggers have been awarded since 1980 and are voted on by coaches and managers across the league.

AL Catcher

Winner: Gary Sanchez, Yankees (1st)
Did you know?: Sanchez led all catchers in homers, RBIs, and OPS.

AL First Base

Winner: Eric Hosmer, Royals (1st)
Did you know?: Hosmer, who won a Gold Glove earlier this week, led all AL first baseman in average, on-base percentage, hits and runs scored.

AL Second Base

Winner: Jose Altuve, Astros (4th)
Did you know?: Altuve is the first player to lead his league in hits in four straight seasons.

AL Third Base

Winner: Jose Ramirez, Indians (1st)
Did you know?: Ramirez is only the second Indians player ever to score 100 runs, steal 15 bases, and hit 50 doubles and 25 homers in a single season.

AL Shortstop

Winner: Francisco Lindor, Indians (1st)
Did you know?: Lindor led all shortstops in home runs, RBIs, and doubles.

AL Outfielders

Winners: Aaron Judge, Yankees (1st)
Justin Upton, Angels (3rd)
George Springer, Astros (1st)
Did you know?: It's the first time in Mike Trout's career that he hasn't won a Silver Slugger (excludes 2011 when he only played 40 games).

AL Designated Hitter

Winner: Nelson Cruz, Mariners (2nd)
Did you know?: It's Cruz's first Silver Slugger as a DH after winning the award as an outfielder in 2015.

NL Catcher

Winner: Buster Posey, Giants (4th)
Did you know?: Posey's four Silver Sluggers are the second most by one player in Giants franchise history, trailing only Barry Bonds (9).

NL First Base

Winner: Paul Goldschmidt, D-Backs (3rd)
Did you know?: Goldschmidt is the only player in Diamondbacks history to win the award multiple times.

NL Second Base

Winner: Daniel Murphy, Nationals (2nd)
Did you know?: Murphy is the 13th National to ever win the Silver Slugger Award since the team moved to Washington.

NL Third Base

Winner: Nolan Arenado, Rockies (3rd)
Did you know?: Arenado joins Mike Schmidt as the only third basemen to win at least three consecutive Silver Sluggers.

NL Shortstop

Winner: Corey Seager, Dodgers (2nd)
Did you know?: Seager is the first Dodger to win back-to-back Silver Sluggers since Mike Piazza in 1996 and '97.

NL Outfielders

Winners: Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins (2nd)
Marcell Ozuna, Marlins (1st)
Charlie Blackmon, Rockies (2nd)

NL Pitcher

Winner: Adam Wainwright, Cardinals (1st)
