Avila: Tigers will decline Anibal Sanchez's $16-million option

It appears Anibal Sanchez's career in the Motor City is over.

Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila announced Friday that the team will decline Sanchez's $16-million option for next season, making him a free agent.

The 33-year-old will receive a $5-million buyout from the Tigers and will presumably try to find a new gig after posting the highest ERA of his career (6.41) across 28 appearances - 17 starts.

Sanchez hasn't been much of a threat out of the Tigers rotation for the past three seasons, but finished fourth in American League Cy Young voting for Detroit in 2013.

Over the past three seasons, the veteran right-hander allowed 85 home runs and averaged more than ten hits per nine innings pitched.
