Kirk Gibson sent words of encouragement to Turner after walk-off HR

When Justin Turner hit a walk-off home run in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs, there was bound to be a comparison to another iconic Los Angeles Dodgers moment: Kirk Gibson's home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series.

Turner's bomb came on the same day 29 years later, and it brought about ideas that it's this Dodgers team's destiny to win the big one. Gibson himself took notice of the bomb and texted Turner to offer his encouragement.

"He texted me yesterday morning. It was really cool," Turner told MLB.com's Ken Gurnick.

"I can't imagine doing it in the World Series," Turner replied to Gibson's congratulations.

"You may get a chance. You've worked so hard. Now, go get it," Gibson wrote back.

Turner has come a long way since leaving the New York Mets in free agency after the 2013 season. In four seasons with the Dodgers, he's hit .303/.378/.502 with 71 home runs, 252 runs scored, and 264 RBIs in 516 games, and finally played in his first All-Star Game in 2017.

Now, he's on the verge of a World Series appearance, where his legend can grow even further.
