Boston Red Sox designated hitter Hanley Ramirez revealed Tuesday he underwent left shoulder surgery.

The 33-year-old was bothered by shoulder issues for the bulk of the season, preventing him from playing first base on a regular basis. Ramirez's shoulders could be to blame for a down season at the plate, in which he hit .242/.320/.429 with 23 homers, 24 doubles, and 116 strikeouts in 133 games.

Ramirez is expected to be ready for the start of the 2018 season.
