Cubs' Davis not playing blame game: 'We got confidence in everybody'

Wade Davis watched from the bullpen as Justin Turner hit a walk-off, three-run home run, propelling the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the NLCS. Davis, arguably the Cubs' best reliever, didn't get his shot to preserve the tie game in the ninth.

However, he's not pointing fingers. Davis explained the Cubs have each other's backs in all scenarios, according to Patrick Mooney of NBCS Chicago.

"We got confidence in everybody that goes out there, so there's no disappointment in any of that," Davis said.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon was roasted on Twitter for going with John Lackey with the game tied, instead of his closer. Maddon's reasoning was that he was only using Davis for a single inning, and wanted to hold onto him in case the Cubs got a lead.

Davis supported Maddon's decision, and tipped his cap to Lackey in the process.

"Lackey's track record in the playoffs has been amazing," Davis said. "I don't think that's something anybody should be second-guessing."

Lackey does have extensive postseason experience, though he's primarily been used as a starting pitcher. Over 142 postseason innings, Lackey has posted a 8-6 record with a 3.36 ERA.

Still, the Cubs find themselves at a 2-0 series disadvantage heading home to Wrigley Field. Game 3 is Tuesday, Oct. 17 with Yu Darvish taking the mound for the Dodgers against Kyle Hendricks of the Cubs.
