Maddon to meet with MLB over critical comments about home-plate rule

Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon will sit down with MLB's chief baseball officer, Joe Torre, after he openly criticized the home-plate collision rule in his postgame press conference on Saturday, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

"I really enjoy my conversations with (Torre)," Maddon told Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. "He's so calm and gets both sides, so I respect what he has to say."

Maddon was ejected in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1 after arguing with umpires about an overturned call at home. On the play, Los Angeles Dodgers baserunner Charlie Culberson was eventually ruled safe due to Cubs catcher Willson Contreras blocking the plate before catching the ball.

"The only thing I'll say is the more I watch it, it was a tremendous baseball play on our part. I could not be happier with the technique, and you can also argue about the bad base running on their side," Maddon said.

"They got rewarded for a wide turn, and we don't get rewarded for a perfect footwork in left field and a great catch and tag at home plate. That's what I saw."
