Report: Rockies' Holland to decline player option for 2018

Greg Holland will look to cash in on his comeback season with the Colorado Rockies.

The closer will reportedly decline his 2018 player option worth $15 million in order to become a free agent, according to FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman.

Heyman notes, however, that mutual interest between Holland and the Rockies could bring the right-hander back to Colorado on a lengthier deal.

After losing his 2016 season to Tommy John surgery, Holland signed a one-year contract with the Rockies, and proved he still had what it takes to finish games. Holland converted 41 saves, tying him for the National League lead with Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Kenley Jansen. It's the fourth time Holland has exceeded 40 saves in a season.

The effort also earned him a spot on his third All-Star roster. He went to the Midsummer Classic twice as a member of the Kansas City Royals.

He pitched to a 3.61 ERA in 57 1/3 innings this season, striking out 11 batters per nine.
