The New York Mets are set to name Cleveland Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway as their new manager, sources confirmed to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman reports Callaway's deal with New York is for three years.

Callaway has served as the Indians pitching coach since the 2013 season. He was also reportedly considered by the Philadelphia Phillies for their managerial vacancy, ESPN's Buster Olney reported earlier this month.

After the Indians' season ended following their American League Division Series loss to the New York Yankees, manager Terry Francona lauded his ally in the dugout and claimed Callaway was ready to take the reins elsewhere.

"But my goodness, he had such an impact on the pitching staff," Francona said, according to The Athletic's T.J. Zuppe. "He's so good. And I would be surprised if that doesn't lead to him managing if he wants to at some point because he's really good."

The 42-year-old Callaway will succeed Terry Collins for the Mets, who resigned as manager on Oct. 1 and was reassigned to a front-office role.
