Cubs hand ball to Hendricks for NLCS Game 3, Arrieta for Game 4
The Chicago Cubs have set their starting rotation through Game 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with Kyle Hendricks going in Game 3 on Tuesday, and Jake Arrieta taking the ball for Game 4.
Hendricks took the mound for two starts in the NLDS against the Washington Nationals, starting the Cubs off with seven shutout innings in Game 1. On normal rest, the 27-year-old right-hander went four innings in the pivotal Game 5, and forfeited four earned runs on nine hits and a walk.
Regardless of how the first pair of games end, Hendricks and his 2.60 postseason ERA will be called upon for the first NLCS game at Wrigley Field.
Arrieta managed four innings in Game 4 of the NLDS, allowing one unearned run on two hits and five walks. The 31-year-old right-hander owns a 3.33 career ERA in the playoffs.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon started the NLCS with two left-handers, opting for Jose Quintana in Game 1 and Jon Lester on short rest for Game 2 in Los Angeles.
