The Atlanta Braves will soon decide if they want Brian Snitker to return as manager, and, although the team is in the midst of a losing season, the 61-year-old skipper appears to have the support of his players.

All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman and several other Braves players have informed the team's front office they want Snitker to return as manager, reports USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

''I'd love to be here,'' Snitker told The Associated Press on Sept. 22. ''I want to be here. We'll see.''

This has been Snitker's first full season as the Braves' manager after taking over in an interim role last season following the firing of Fredi Gonzalez.

The Braves have accumulated a 70-84 record thus far under the skipper, who has been with the organization for 41 years.

''This has been my life,'' he explained. ''The majority of time I've been alive, I've been with the Atlanta Braves. So yeah, it's going to be hard to think about being somewhere else.''

Atlanta posted a 59-65 record under Snitker in 2016, going 37-35 after the All-Star break.

He was signed to a one-year deal in October 2016 that includes a club option for 2018.
