Tigers' Alex Wilson fractures leg after being hit by comebacker

Detroit Tigers reliever Alex Wilson had to leave Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins after being struck in the leg by Twins first baseman Joe Mauer's comebacker in the eighth inning.

The Tigers later announced Wilson suffered a non-displaced fibular fracture of the right lower leg.

Leading off the eighth inning for the Twins, Mauer connected on Wilson's 93.3-mph fastball with a full count, driving it directly at the pitcher. He attempted to throw a warmup pitch after being struck but the pain was too great. He walked off the field with a trainer's assistance.

Following the game, Wilson told MLB.com's Jason Beck that his leg would be in a cast for four-to-six weeks, though he expects to be ready for spring training.

In 60 relief innings this season, the 30-year-old owns a 4.50 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.
