Yost committed to Royals in 2018: 'I'm not walking away'

While the Kansas City Royals are sure to sport a very different roster in 2018, one thing looks to hold steady: the bench boss.

Ned Yost has managed the Royals since 2010, helping guide the team to two World Series appearances, winning the second in 2015. With another year left on his contract, he's not planning on going anywhere.

"I'm under contract for next year," Yost told MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan. "...I'm not walking away."

Five marquee names in Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, and Jason Vargas will be unrestricted free agents at season's end, signaling the end of an era.

For Yost, he sees his experience as an asset that will help usher in the rookies and sophomores looking to make their own marks on the franchise, even if he's not going to stick around long term.

"Am I going to see this thing through? No. But I want to get a firm footing and firm foundation on the ground so someone else ... in two years, whatever it is ... (can step in) and get back to where we feel we can compete again. Then, boom. It'll just be easier for me to transition the young guys."
