When a 105-mph line drive flew off the bat of Todd Frazier into the stands at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday and injured a young girl who had to be hospitalized, the experience changed the third baseman.

Frazier, who has two kids of his own, says he got in touch with the father of the girl, and her condition is improving.

"I played a little phone tag, but ended up talking to the father (Wednesday) and he says she's doing OK," Frazier said Friday, according to Randy Miller of NJ.com. "I didn't really get into the details much about it. ... But he says she's doing good.

"He told me not to stress over it. 'We understand how upset you were. It's nobody's fault. It's just one of those freak accidents.' He said the family is just happy that she's OK. That's the bottom line."

Frazier remains shaken by the incident, but was reassured by the conversation Wednesday.

"It was just scary all over and I can picture what really happened and I just want to make sure she's all right," Frazier said. "I wasn't the same, but that phone call (to the girl's father) made it a lot better."

Commissioner Rob Manfred said Major League Baseball will "redouble" its efforts to ensure proper safety netting is installed in its ballparks, while the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds all announced they'll install additional netting to protect fans.

Frazier was one of many players who advocated for the additional safety precautions.

"I'm all for protecting the fans and everybody," Frazier said. "I see it at third base all the time. I scream, 'Hey, watch out!' on foul balls. They don't realize how fast it's really coming. It's crazy. You see balls like that ricochet off the chair. It just was very unlucky that day. ...

"2018 I think is too late. I think it should be up sooner than that. It's just a matter of figuring out how to do it."
