In a press conference Friday held to officially announce Noah Syndergaard's return to the starting rotation, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson touched on the future of Matt Harvey, saying he expects the right-hander will be back in the fold for next season, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Harvey is scheduled to relieve Syndergaard, who is making his first appearance in the majors since April 30, in the second inning of Saturday's game in an effort to ease him back into action.

In recent weeks, Harvey's future with the organization has been a topic of conversation in large part due to his struggles and off-field issues. Harvey was handed a three-game suspension in early May for violating team rules after he failed to show up to Citi Field a day before his scheduled start.

Harvey enters his final year of arbitration and barring a long-term contract, will become a free-agent in 2019. In 17 starts this year, the 28-year-old has pitched to a career-worst 6.59 ERA with 42 walks and 62 strikeouts. He'll earn $5.1 million this season.
